Cafe de Hong Kong

Another lazy night and I was not in the mood to cook. We headed to Cafe de Hong Kong at Carlingord for a quick and cheap dinner. Cafe de Hong Kong is a typical Hong Kong style cafe where you can find sandwiches, to noodle soup,  to mussels in XO sauce; they served a big varieties of food with a small price tag. While Herby opted for his iced HK style milk tea, I ordered an iced ribena with lemon. The milk tea is rich and smooth while the iced ribena was tangy sweet and refreshing.

We arrived at around 8 pm and the cafe was filled with diners. It was such a busy night for them, so the food were not as good as the not so busy time. We have ordered 3 rice dishes to share:
"Chinese style beef fillets with rice", "Crumbed pork cutlets in tomato sauce with rice" and "Baked seafood with rice in tturmeric and coconut sauce".

The "Chinese style beef fillets with rice" (chung sik ou laau faan) is a dish where beef fillets and onion slices are slightly braised in a sweet and sour sauce which mainly made with tomato sauce and worcestershire sauce. This is one of my all time favourites since I was little. The tender fillets and sweet onion were sooooo good. I wish there was more sauce for me to soak up with the rice.

"Crumbed pork cutlets in tomato sauce with rice" (keu jup gut lit chu pa faan) is a simple rice dish with deep fried crumbed pork cutlets and served with a HK style tomato sauce. The pork cutlets were a little bit over cooked, so they were a little bi dry and tough. But for me, the highlight of the dish is the sauce. I love this type of tomato sauce on rice, again, I wish there was more sauce for me to soak up with the rice.

"Baked seafood with rice in turmeric and coconut sauce" (po jup kuk hoi sin faan) is a baked rice dish with a variety of seafood andtopped with tamarind and coconut sauce. It was full of squid pieces, prawns, mussels and fish pieces; and the sauce was rich and creamy.

I wouldn't say the quality of food are excellent, but with this small price tag on the bill (most of the rice and noodles dishes are range from $7 - $10), it's cheap and most of the food are tasty.
