Thanh Binh

Thanh Binh

Menu

Whenever I need to buy herbs, exotic fruits and veggies, I will head down to Cabramatta - the little south east Asia in sydney. The choises are wise and most of the fruits and veggies are extremely fresh and slightly cheaper than other places.

Before I start my groceries shopping on a hot and sunny Sat, we had lunch at Thanh Binh. I was going to have lunch at a Cambodian restaurant, but the restaurant is still close for the CNY holiday. So, while we were wandering on the main street, we saw Thanh Binh. It was only 11.30 am, but the restaurant was 80% full already. We decided to give it a go.

We ordered the "Pho Tai" (rice noodle in aromatic beef broth served with chilli, fresh basil, beansprouts & lemon with rare beef) and "Bun dac biet" (rice Vermicelli salads served with mint, salad green, crushed peanuts, shallot, relish and tangy fish sauce dressing with spring roll, sugar cane prawn, grilled pork, Viet style ham and shredded pork)

chilli, fresh basil, beansprouts & lemon for the "Pho"

"Pho Tai"

The "Pho Tai" was pipping hot and filled with lots of raw onions, corriander and shallots. Although the broth was dark and rich and full of spices. I think the broth is a lttile bit too powerful for my taste. And compare to the "Bun", the serving of the rice noodle in the "Pho" is quite small.

The "Bun dac biet" was full of rice Vermicelli noodles, mint, lettuce, cucumbers, crushed peanuts, shallot, relish and they provide you with a bowl of tangy fish sauce dressing to pour over the "bun".  There was a large piece of sugar cane prawn cake, a crispy rice paper spring roll, sweet chargrilled pork pieces, shredded pork and a piece of viet style ham (the pink looking rectangle). Except for the viet style ham, which tasted quite sour to me, I love all the condiments in this refreshing summer dish.

I would love go back to this place for another bowl of refreshing "bun" in anytime.
