Ocean Room

A couple of weeks ago, I went to celebrate my birthday with Herby. We went to the Ocean Room to enjoy a lovely dinner. The Ocean Room is located at the Overseas Terminal at the Rocks, with the specticular view of Opera House and the Circular Quay.

We have ordered the 12 courses tasting menu for food; and for drinks, Herby ordered a warm sake and I had a gingery mocktail - "Gingerball".

"Gingerball" - A must for ginger lover, extremely gingery ... and nicely fragrant with a shiso leaf

 Sake

We started of with the Oyster Duo ... and followed by lots of yummy dishes ...

Rock Oyster with shiso basil sorbet and konbu

Pacific Oyster with fresh chilli & lemon vinegrette

Marinated blue fin tune tartare in wrapped nori cornet

Marinated anchovy with smoked tomato sorbet

Spiced soft shell crab, pickled vegetables in a taco shell

Crispy king prawn with wasabi aioli

Seared bar cod with sake and plum jelly, sheer konbu

Tuna five ways, with five different condiment ...
1. Oil Balanced - chilli salt, fresh ginger & corriander
2. Fresh Raw - soy salt, wasabi and lemon zest
3. Seared - soy salt, five peppers & salmon roe
4. Fresh Raw - black salt, jalapeno & yuzu zest
5. Marinated - truffle salt, fried garlic and fresh chilli

Pan seared green prawn with corriander citurus sauce

Sweet miso marinated cod fillet with ginger scented risotto

Sansho pepper beef steak - grain fed rib eye steak with sansho peppercorn jus

Sushi collection - Tuna, King fish, Ocean trout

Ocean Room Assiette - Chocolate mousse cake

Ocean Room Assiette - Warm mini pink lady apple almond gateau

Ocean Room Assiette - Green Tea Icecream

Although some of the dishes took a while to come, the servie was good. Highlight of the night? For me, definately the sweet miso marinated cod fillet with ginger scented risotto. The fish was cooked to perfection with a nicely balance of sweetness from the sweet miso. And the ginger risotto was full of minced ginger, giving the dish a gentle heat.  The other dish that i liked a lot was the seared bar cod with sake and plum jelly, sheer konbu. The sake plum jelly was soft and tangy; and it lightened up the oily fish taste in this dish. The only problem was they gave you a fork for this dish; I wish i had a spoon so I can scoop up all the delicious jelly sitting at the bottom of the bowl.

I wish there were more desserts ... more green tea icecream would be nice ...  :)
